JFL Football
Will Tate Award
The last football game Will Tate ever played was as a JFL player on the artificial turf at Memorial Stadium in September 2005. Will died after a battle with leukemia four months later. Unity remembers Will Tate.
In what would have been his senior year of high school, his classmates knew that Tate would have enjoyed that undefeated run to the state title game with his closest friends. "He would have been a great lineman, " one of his classmates said, "He was such a hard worker.” That senior class dedicated all their games to Will’s memory.
The Unity JFL program continues to honor the memory of their fallen comrade with the annual Will Tate Award. As the season closes, the coaches of each JFL team choose one individual from their team for recognition for their dedication and hard work through practices and games.
